Are you ready to get strong? Really strong?
The barbell is the most effective tool to get you strong, but it’s not quite as simple as just picking one up. Unfortunately many athletes and trainers do not maximize the effectiveness of these basic barbell movements in training and many athletes never reach their full potential due to faulty mechanics.
When you become a member of the Bull City Barbell Club, we will introduce you to the concept of linear progression and focus on increasing your Squat, Press, Deadlift, Bench Press, and Power Clean! Athletes will learn these basic barbell movements, refine technique, and train hard. Once lifters have outgrown a basic linear progression they will be transitioned into a personalized program geared towards their individual goals, such as Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Strongman or Crossfit with a strength bias.
The Bull City Barbell Club is coached by CrossFit Powerlifting and USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach Ryan Brown. Ryan is an expert at implementing the basics of a novice strength training program.
Athletes will learn the movements in detail, incorporate drills for each lift, and analyze their technique on video to help get a good sense of what’s going right, what’s going wrong and how their mechanics can be improved to maximize the loads lifted. Sessions will include a warm-up, mobility work, strength work and sometimes end with a brief conditioning session.
The Club trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8pm and on Saturdays 12 to 2pm and the number of participants is capped to maximize personal attention and time under the bar. When spots are open, new athletes can join the Club with just a 4-week commitment beginning on any given Tuesday. New athletes, who are not already training regularly at CrossFit Durham, are required to complete two 1-on-1 Barbell Club Foundations Sessions with Coach Ryan. Contact him at (919) 624-5364 or email to inquire about available spots on the upcoming roster.
There are no minimum requirements or prerequisites to join the Barbell Club. Athletes of all experience levels are welcome. Each athlete’s training program will be individualized according to their strengths and weaknesses.
Price: $100 for two 1-on-1 Barbell Foundations Sessions. Then, $160/month thereafter. (current CFD athletes will not have to pay their monthly membership fee while attending).
