All %’s for the strength segment of the workout should be based on your 1RM for the lift and are meant to serve as a guide in your training. You should generally not be failing on any set except maybe your last one of the day. If you’re unsure about your technique or ability to perform a given set safely at the posted %, then use common sense and good judgement. When in doubt, live to lift again another day.
This Metcon is a CrossFit Benchmark WOD. Scale pullups and KB load only to ensure proper movement execution.

Sweet. I don’t have a Helen time.
I love establishing benchmarks.

ummm, that guy scares me. he sounds hungry.
i would LOVE to do helen, but taking it easy this week. dang it.

Helen is one of my favorites! Bummed I won’t be doing it this week, but tapering is the name of the game this week. T-5 days until sectionals!
Can’t wait to see the 7pm class kill it tonight!

First time I’ve done Helen RX. Made the jump from red-band assisted to what was likely a pretty ugly kip.
At any rate, finally got to put a time on the board…9:11.

Ashley, he sounded like a hungry dragon in a cave.
Does making scary noises help on big lifts?
I noticed that the Wilkes boys were almost silent in their ridiculously heavy lifts.
Personal preference?

220 front squat x 5. 8.2? rx’d on wod…hope to break 8 in the next couple of months. Liked doing WOD first then lift, though I felt like passing out

phil, what he REALLY sounded like was a hungry dragon in a cave who stubbed his pinky toe while searching for his shoes that he forgot were burned up because he accidentally breathed fired on them the night before when he drank too many jager bombs w/his friends.
i don’t know about the yelling (or growling) during lifts. i haven’t never done it. at least not that i’m aware of.
worked on rope climbs and hspu on the wall and then on parallets (sp?) w/bands. my wod was 5 min of 1 armed kb wings @ 35#. couldn’t put down weight. that got tricky when trying to chalk hands. 131 reps.

oh, ps – the 8:30 and 11:30 classes did an AWESOME job at helen. matt’s feet are fast.

“haven’t never” and “wings”… geesh.

The Helen tradition returns, YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!! I think she’s going to break me off like she used to back in the day, but eh, screw it- let’s go B@*#%!
As a sidenote, when I first came to the gym a (gulp) year ago, we used to do Helen on the first of every month as a sort of benchmark of how you were doing, so I’m glad she’s back today on the first.

Matt and Charlie,
I’m humbled by your times this morning. Great work!

Thanks Greg, I’ve been a great mood all day for finally doing a freaking WOD with pull-ups RX.
Did want to chime about the order of WOD vs weights. I guess ours was the only class to do the squats first and, frankly, I’m sort of glad we did. I guess it may have made it a bit tougher/slower having just done those squats, I can’t help but think that my squats would have suffered more post Helen, than my Helen did, post squats.
Just one man’s opinion.

Did the WOD Rx’d in 8:46, then was completely spent for front squats.
Does anyone have a recommendations for good weightlifting shoes? I figure it’s time to get a pair.
March 1st, 2010 at 9:18 PM
Jeff — there’s a link for the Rogue shoes that a lot of us have if you go to our “store” tab….they run about $110 with shipping
You could also look at VS Athletics — these are generally only about $80. There are more expensive “serious” shoes from Adidas and Nike

9:34 is what I got on the WOD yesterday, once again the kettlebell swings in rd2… oh how I hate you.
