Occupation: Hearing Aid Specialist
When did you first start CrossFitting?:
What is your favorite movement? Favorite workout?
Push Press! All workouts are challenging and different, so it’s hard to pick just one favorite.
What is your least favorite movement? Least favorite workout?
Front squats! An old sports injury just won’t let me hold the bar right. I also hate anything that has to do with running.
Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
I was an avid baseball player growing up, but an injury to my elbow prevented any MLB dreams. I played a lot of tennis also. Growing up in Virginia Beach I got hooked on two man beach volleyball and I LOVE golf!
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Do you remember your first WOD? How did it go?
Daniel Mason, who’s also a CFD’er, and I signed up together at CrossFit 919. I can’t remember the WOD, but I did get sick. I thought I was going to die after I really thought I was in shape! I wisely did Bootcamp first and then transitioned to “regular” CrossFit!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? (before/after)
My starting weight was a puffy 228lbs. Now I am a much leaner 205! I am one of the old guys at the gym, and it’s nice to be able to try and keep up with the younger crowd. I LOVE the Community!
What is your favorite CrossFit/CFD moment?
Doing the Ultimate Advantage training with Rick Scarpulla! It was a weekend of PR’s. Plus the group of people there were amazing.
Having one of America’s top coaches labeling me a strong old man was kinda cool! Working with Dr. Stewart Peters, of Active Life Concepts, has been life changing as well.
What is your advice for people just getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit?
JUST DO IT! Stop making excuses!
What are your hobbies, interests, and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
Love working in the garden!
Love all sports!
Love the mountains!
